looking at first boat in about 20 years. I am looking at a 1996 maxum 2000sf. I dont have alot of info on it as of yet but what i know is he is asking 4500. it has the 5.7 chevy and it appears clean. I was wondering if the hull is up to a bit of ocean fishing or if the "bayliner. maxum" hull design is too weak to confidently support a bit of offshore. I have read a bit about the lackluster build quality but I dont know what years are the worst. I read that the build quality did start to improve but I dont know what years. Any info you supply would be very appreciated. Thanks

Re: help with boat info

from lurking these forums I was under the impression it was around 95/96 that improvements to quality occurred. I don't have model information just repeating information posted from previous threads.

Re: help with boat info

On a 14 year old boat, maintenance is more important than initial build quality. It could have been the best made boat there ever was - if it sat out side or was neglected the whole time, it would be terrible by now. Check it over carefully for transom damage and floor rot. If you feel soft spots in the floor, it's most likely more than the floor that is damaged.

Sorry I don't have more insight in the particular brand. There is alot to brand loyalty, but after a while, issues are due more to how the boat was taken care of than the name on the side.
