Re: Adding second axle?

Just thinking about adding a second axle to my trailor. Current tires squat w proper air pressure @ 32 psi. 175/70/13 Hubs are 4 hole. Prob end up putting heavier axle and upgrade to 5 hole hubs, 15 inch wheels instead. Carrying a 1976 ozark tri hull 16 ft. Dry weight is supposed to be 800 lbs. Current tires are rated 1000 lbs so 2000 total rating on tires. Never had tire problems other than 1 tire seperating (used tire) Had 8 inch load range c 90 psi on there for a few hundred mile. Serious negative camber wear on drivers side. No camber wear w/ 13's. That one has me stumped, 13's should be wearing too. May try and find some LT 13 or ST 13 and call it good.

Adding an axle for a 800lbs boat seems not logical to me. even with a 500lbs trailer you should still be plenty ok with 2 13" wheels.

Instead of adding another axle, just upgrade your current axle and springs that correspond to your current load. I am assuming that the trailer frame itself is designed for the load you are carrying. You should really weigh what you have so that you know what your actual total weight is.

Put trailer tires on it and run 50 to 60 psi or more depending on the max psi rating.
I have 530/ 12s that have a max psi of 80

Passenger tires just aren't up to the task of trailering. Is that 800lbs w/o the motor? Sounds more like the weight of just the bare hull.

jtmarten - you right on the mark. Get some trailer tires

And

bruceb58 - is correct get the set up weight, this will tell you what tires or springs ...ect, you really need to trailer properly.
