I had an electrical short in my boat that I have now fixed but my tack doesn't work any more. I asked a local boat guy and he said that it was probably the rectifer? Which I dont get how that could run the tach but he said I could test it by checking for 12 volts DC at this bolt (See pixs)

with the motor running and this red wire not hooked up it should have 12 volts. The bolt has vo volts here with the motor running, so that would mean it's not charging the battery correct? Does this drive the tach also like he said? Tnx for any comments.

That means the rectifier is fried and not charging the battery. Yes, the rectifier also drives the tacho.... it's the gray wire with one of the yellow wires.

Get a new rectifier HERE....
