Re: 140 HP Mercruiser shifter/throttle linkage
OK, pics aren't going to be as helpful as I had hoped, as my current setup has the shift mechanism on top.
There is a sticky in the Adults section that describes how the shift interrupt works, that might shed some light.
If I were in your position, here's what it'd do.
You've got three cables to worry about: throttle, which is self explanatory, shift cable to the helm, and lower shift cable to the drive. So, the question is, which side of the v-shaped shift interrupt mechanism does each of the two shift cables go to. If memory serves, and that's iffy sometimes, one of the two shift cable will have an adjusting barrel on it, which will only go in one place. The terminating location of that cable should then be obvious. That leave only one place for the other cable.
Summary: Unless better info come along, hook it up and shift at the helm. See if the prop lock in the proper direction, and ratchets in the other. Do it both in forward and reverse. As long as you don't "gorilla" anything, I don't think you can hurt anything. I am heading to my office today, and will take a look at the side mounted donor engine there and take some pics that may or may not help.
Sorry I'm not being more definitively helpful! Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will speak up and clarify/correct my ramblings.
Best of luck!
