Re: need help identifiying me new starcraft

does it have the flat glass windshield or the bent plexi? this is a good help in dating it.

as someone else said, most of these hulls and boats are basically similar, it's just the length and the outfitting (open or closed bow, cabin, etc). anything that's 24 feet would have been called either an Islander or a Chieftain...i think they're essentially the same thing, but the Islander name superseded the Chieftain. the reason yours looks longer is that the vast majority of em were 21 or 22 feet....the 24 and 26 footers are uncommon.

nice boat, welcome, and you've heard the rumors of the zombie stalker hordes around here who claw at your windows at night crying "piiiiictures"?? we thirst for your pixels.

Re: need help identifiying me new starcraft

The Cheiftains have been around since at least 64(which is the oldest brochure I have). In 64, 65, and 66 they shared the same hull as the Sunchief. The Starchief was also available all thru the 60's in an 18' hull and was the same platform as the Holiday. In 67 Starcraft introduced the Islander as a replacment for the Sunchief using the same hull and even 66's paint scheme.

The Islander was available in a larger 24 and I think 26 foot model sometime in the mid 70's but I haven't seen one in a brochure. Also available in that time frame was a Chieftain type boat in 24 and 26 foot models, but I haven't seen those in the brochures either. Also, they weren't just longer, they had higher gunwales and were overall just bigger.

In the 70's Starcraft did some weird stuff with the brochures. The 76 brochure shown in our brochure link is not a full representation, just the runabouts. There is a paragraph in that brochure that says to contact your local dealer for a full brochure that shows all of the boats available.

I search everyday for brochures to fill in the blanks:D

Re: need help identifiying me new starcraft

NB--thanks for clarification!

i'd thought the Islander was the replacement for the Chieftain, and the Islander 19 the replacement for the Starchief.

i note your brochure in your resto thread mentions a "camper top" for the Sunchief....how does this differ from a Chieftain/Islander? less interior appointments?

on just how close the Starchief and holiday are....my Starchief even has a hole in the bow cap where i'd guess an AM radio antenna or something would go on a Holiday, so it looks like the hulls are 100% identical up til they drop the camper shell on.

Barato,
This is the camper top they were talking about. My boat still has the snaps for it.

Over the last 30 years or so, the islander has been offered in several different lengths and with different power packages. I's the only model from the late 60's that starcraft still offers.

Jesse, as I said earlier, we don't know what this boat was called. We've seen several over the past couple years selling on ebay and Craigslist.

I have been trying my hardest to figure out the model. As i said before it is very simalar to the cheiftan but has slight differances. I measured it again today and it is for sure 24 foot long. All i know is i havent seen another one like it anywhere. The closest i found is a fishing boat called the polish viking. It is very simalar just smaller
