Robby,

If I correctly interpret one of your pics, you are chain sawing the rotten core out of your transom. If you can preserve the inner skin from saw damage, you might consider a NIDA pourable ceramic transom core job. It's a little expensive, $132.00/5 gal.+hazmat, but super easy to do. It is remarkably strong. Goggle for their website. I did a 15 foot skiff that route and am really glad I did. No more wood core to worry about.

Day 30 not a smoke, not that I haven't craved one every now and then. Weather is still way too darn hot to do anything. My idle hands are itching to dig into fiberglass and get to itching. Here are some pics on the bilge or lack there of. I am trying to plan everything out and am kind of stumped on the bilge.

The floor is also glued to the subfloor in places and I want to keep the upper shell in one piece if I can. I think it's definitely going to take a little ingenuity to get the two separated and in one piece.

Anyway,

Thats why I cut my deck off, left the cap in place.
Getting it all off in one peice isn't always possible with a molded inner liner.
Sometimes its easier to cut the rear part of the cap/gunnels off that way you can get at the rear transom surface.

So today was the first sub 100* day since January it seems. It topped out at a cool 86 today! It was the first day I could actually work on the boat without dieing. Today's goals were to build a lift system and get the halves separated. Introducing the "Robby3000 Multi-purpose lift system" (patent pending of course)

Trying to separate the halves, I was lifting trailer, hull, and cap.

Time to cut the floor, it is not going to budge

Then I figured I would saw into the sub-floor and check out what is below. I was very disappointed at what happened next.

WATER! The foam is soaked and water sitting everywhere! I had planned on going to the bare hull, seeing this makes me glad I am. I am guessing this is going to weigh about 500 lbs.

WOW! Nice lift! Too bad the limbs from that big tree weren't hanging in the right spot. And the joy's of wet foam. Mine was a bit of a pain to get out, but not too bad. I used a hand saw to cut it into chunks, which made it easier to pop out. I wish I was able to make use of this beautiful day (non-Texans can't appreciate just how nice an 80* day in August is.) My tarp leaked last night, so I had to put the squirrel cage fan on it all afternoon.

I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was under that cap! Man, the suspense!

I hear ya on the cooler days. The summer has only been in the low 90s, but add on 90% humidity.

Looks like at least one stringer there, and I'm not surprised about the water in the foam, given what you said earlier about your seats. You're in familiar territory, though. A lot of us have gone through this exactly.

Well it wasn't quite as sophisticated as CLAYAROBINSON's lift lol, although if I could have got away with his lift system I would. I figured the Admiral would have freaked had I involved the roof of the house in any part of the restoration. I am already pressing my luck by doing this in my driveway.
The wet foam smells awful! I have a job that has some stink to it, but whew it was not a pleasant odor.

Had an early day off work, business was slow, which is a good thing in my line of work! I remembered the Admiral's b-day which is a shock. All was good, so I went outside and started cutting the floor out. I got the whole floor cut out and the stench of the foam was awful! I could smell it through the respirator. I actually think there are things growing in the foam unknown to mankind! It could definitely make a science experiment. I was pleased at how easy the floor removal was. What I was not prepared for was the foam removal. Even after reading tons of threads about how much of a P.I.T.A. it is, I would have never thought it would be that tough. There is always tomorrow!
If it seems like I am posting too much, too often, I am sorry. This is just as much for me, if not more for me, to keep up my daily thoughts and help me reference back when I start putting all the pieces together.
Well tonight like I mentioned is the Admiral's b-day and I might (will) get lucky, so I think it's time to put this down and direct my attention somewhere else.

In this pic it is hard to tell, but I am straddling a piece of flooring. The plywood is 5/8 thick and the fiberglass floor is 3/8. Seems like a bit of overkill to me?

30 minutes of my life piled up in one little corner! Removing foam sux!

I got one of those wire wheels from Harbor Freight (or Home Depot or Lowes) that attach to a drill. There's a pic in my resto thread. It turns wet or dry foam into yellow snow. It's like a sculpting tool -- you probably couldn't use it to get rid of all the foam, but it works separating the foam from the stringers and bulkheads, then a prybar can work a little better to get big chunks out. Best $10 I spent. Works really well to get that last stubborn bit of foam off the hull, too.

Are those tie downs? Hard to see on the picture. If so, mine are stainless. I think I saw some at the local marine shop here.

Yes, that's what I thought they were called but it seems they don't carry them on iboats or they have a different name. I figured these would be readily available anywhere. I am trying to order most of my stuff from here, but not finding a few key things that I need. It's a 45 minute drive to the nearest marine store and with my job, I can't always go that far. I have ordered from iboats before and like that it shows up at my door step.

I am definitely not on top of my google-fu skills today!
