boat specs:

1998 Glastron GS 205 IO
5.0L Volvo Penta SX

stock 14 1/2 aluminum prop
pitch 19

The wife was helping me put the boat on the trailer as you can see below. I was happy with the performance of the boat before but this could be the perfect excuse for an upgrade.

Can I just hand-file this thing to fix it?
should it be replaced?

what a stainless prop of the same specs above improve performance?

That is an EASY fix for a good prop shop. Mine was 10x worse than that. I had it fixed for 60 bucks and it looks and performs like brand new...

PS

It only took 2 days for the repair...

glad to hear it. I may have it fixed either way but I have a chance for an upgrade(wife feels terrible). ;)

if I upgrade to stainless and keep the same size/pitch will I see any performance changes, or will I need to change something to see a difference?

Re: damaged prop: time to upgrade?

No reason to not do both (except for the slight extra money!), have this prop repaired. Should be an easy fix- i've done way worse to my prop guy.
That's your spare.
Then get another one for your main prop.

I went from a similar prop as yours, except is was a 21p. That's my spare.
I got a SS 4 blade but in 19P. I'm very happy with the results. The prop guy suggested going down in pitch for this switch, but he also said if I could swap for an identical prop in another pitch if I needed.

That isn't really that bad, not saying just go with it but I wouldn't have a problem fixing that one up with a file and use it as your spare. Then buy the new one to use 99% of the time.
