Hi,

I have a 1987 19ft renken bowrider. The boat is pretty original condition and i am looking to spruce it up. The boat currently has carpeting on the floor and going half way up the gunnals. I am intrested in painting the floor with that non slip paint so i can get rid of this freakin carpet and have the boat look nice and easier to clean. Any ideas on paint manufactures, and how do i apply the coat?

Thanks guys

Re: Replacing carpet deck with paint

Welcome to iboats. Do a search here for this topic and you will get a ton of info.

Short answer is there are many, many options for deck paint and anti-skid: Kiwi grip, grizzly grip, truck bed paints, urethanes with a non-skid additive, and some specific anti-skid coatings.

The key is going to be prepping the deck properly after you remove the carpet. The will be a good deal of sanding and maybe even some repair. You will also have to prime prior to painting.

Keep us informed as to how you made out.

As mentioned ton's of different materials (kiwi grip, durabak or even snap in carpets)

Use an angle grinder with a cup brush to remove the excess glue just be light handed or it will eat the fiberglass floor...... it will shorten your work.
