I have a Mariner 150 efi. When I get above about 2500 rpm the engine cuts out like the kill switch was turned off and then starts back up. It does not do in nuetral, only when its under a load. It will continue as long as it is at higher rpm. Also tach not working properly. Have checked for wires and connections and voltages on the ramp. Recently took to a local mechanic with a good reputation. He is not sure what the prob is either. He said he is guessing the voltage regulator because the tach is screwy but that the voltages are checking out ok. Trying to get the boat ready for a youth trip in 8 days and didnt want to start throwing money at parts and it not fix it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Curtis

Have you checked the fuel system. I recently had a similar problem and it turned out to be the interior lining of the fuel line was flaking of and was being trapped in the water separator. It was the gray fuel line. It just does n't hold up to ethanol. Also had chunks lodged in the anti-siphon on the fuel ball.:)

Yeah I replaced those lines. I put an external tank on to isolate the motor. The mechanic I took it to really seems to think it is an electrical problem but just not sure what it is.

Found Problem! I have been focusing on wires. I knew it had to be a short. The rubber around connections that hooks up voltage regulator is getting old and starting to break down. Found one spot that was arcing when under load.
