At my local like the no wake zone has a roped off swimming area in it.. you cannot drive a boat into the swimming area (obviously) you get dirty looks for going anywhere near it.
the rest of the no wake zone is bordered by the camping and pick nick areas.
its not at all uncommon for there to be people swimming/floating whatever outside of the swimming area.
the other day however I was trying to pull my boat up next to where my table/gear/pit etc was and there was a large group of people (teens and low 20s, probably 12 or so) swimming all around right where i needed to go, i idled up as slow as possible (21ft pontoon) but they just looked at me defiantly and would not get out of the way, finally i had to go farther down the bank get out, and drag the boat back with a rope to my area, the whole while these people are making smartass comments and giving dirty looks, because im pulling my boat through what they have apparently claimed as their private swimming area.
after I got the boat on the bank, oddly enough they all suddenly seemed uninterested in swimming.. and went back to their table (100 yards down the bank) now I understand WHY they were swimming where my spot was as opposed to theirs... hydrilla.. but still, they could have been in the actual swimming area which was closer to their spot than where I was.
at any rate we drank some cokes and downed some dogs and it was time to go back out. we start loading gear on the boat, and almost on cue, here they come again, some with food still in their hands.. they all pile into the water and form a semi circle around by boat.. they are doing a poor job of hiding what they are doing..
So again, i have to get a rope and drag my boat down the bank a ways, before I can get it away from the bank because these people just wont move.
Are there any standard rules that apply to this situation? right of way kinda stuff? this is a private lake, not a state park. What would YOU have done?
The last thing I want when I go to the lake is drama, but this situation really got under my skin.
