Battery Combiner or Isolater

I have a separate battery for the trolling motor in my Tracker 16, but it has to be charged at home. I see combiners for about $70 and isolators for maybe $20 (non-marine). They both look pretty simple - but do they have to be marine? It sure seems to make a big difference in price and availability. Incidentally, the outboard is a Mercury 30. (All brand new - been out one time.)

Save your money and continue to charge the troller battery at home. The engine charging system does not have sufficient output to handle charging of two batteries -- especially if the troller is deeply discharged.

I agree with Silvertip.
Also if you deside to get one anyway do not get the isolator as it will drop about .7 volts on a outboard so battery will charge slower.

You motor likely has only has about 12 to 15 amps of output so it would never charge your trolling motor battery and your charging system would be running at max output all the time and could over heat.
