Does the fuel pump just consist of the diaphrams and the housing and the gasket? And does the diaphram pump the gas. How can I tell if the diaphram is bad. I have to pump the bulb when I am accelerating from idle to full speed. But in idle and when its at full speed it pumps fine by itself. Any thoughts on this? Can the diaphrams just be bad?

Re: fuel pump questions

What we working on??? Some pumps have different types of check valves.
A bad diaphram can be a streched one or one with holes in it.Or it can be weak. The check valves can be bad. Some check valves are a small plastic wafer about the size of a quarter and about as thin as a piece of paper. One little bend can make it useless.
Sometime the squeezie is bad too.
Take the fuel pump apart and check it.Post some pics.J

Its a 85 50 hp force. Where would the valves be located? I pulled the fuel pump off yesterday it apeared the diaphrams were in place and the gasket looked pretty stretched out kinda bubbly looking
