I rebuilt my pontoon, i installed a new ignition switch , i have a 15hp evinrude motor with a push button start. I basically hooked up the switch to the push button switch and it fired right up, but, will not shut off, i still have to pull the cord on the handle to shut off. Can i tap in to the ground or how can i kill the motor from my new ignition switch ????????

Re: Need help with new ignition switch

Do you have the correct ignition switch? There are two types -- one for a battery ignition system (like a car system) and one for a magneto system. If you bought an off the shelf car style switch that won't work for an outboard. An outboard ignition switch has two "M" (magneto) terminals on it. In the OFF position those two terminals are connected. One terminal goes to ground, and the other goes to the magneto which is the kill swtich wire from the ignition switch. You can actually wire that terminal to the NON-GROUND wire on the kill switch.
