Mine works great only it buzzes all the time .Anyone know why this happens. It's a Piranha max 160 Fishfinder.I only use it near the shore because of the noise.

Perhaps someone set the alarm for a deep depth? It would then buzz at anything shallower.

Or perhaps a fault in the display unit.

+1 for OldePhart. You seemed to indicate that the unit worked ok, just buzzed. If it's not working ok, you may have a bad sender unit. I have only used Garmin's over the years and they will print on the screen if the sender is disconnected.

Good luck and report back your findings so the rest of us can learn.

Got to ask the obvious, but is it definitely coming from the depth finder? The reason I ask is that I hear a buzzing on my radio when the Humminbird is turned on and I'm tuned to certain stations.

Re: Depth finder problem.

Which wire are you pulling (or maybe you mean one of the connectors... Mine has two, one for power, one for the transducer)? I'm assuming the depth finder does not work with the wire pulled, but what if you just power the unit off, does it still make the noise?

Anyway, I have the PiranhaMax20.

You can find the manuals here: http://www.humminbird.com/support/FAQ.aspx?faqid=72

Maybe there is troubleshooting?

[edit] Well I checked, nothing like your problem, but there is an e-mail for support: custserv@techsonic.com or you can call 334-687-0503.

I have a PiranhaMax 150. When i turn it on, i always get a message that reads, sensor connected. See what your depth alarm in set on. I usually keep mine at 4' for shallow water. Of course at that depth, weeds and other structure will set it off.

I'm assuming you could still get it fixed for much cheaper lol. Really hope we still learn what the problem was. Thanks

I'll try it one more time this week end, then if it's not cured, it's trash.

Re: Depth finder problem.

My wife hooked up the depth finder on Saturday and when I put the boat in the water and started to move out of the dock area I turned on the finder and it started to work. It only buzzed around 3 ft mark. I don't know why but it works now.Now if I could only get my tack to work. My tack bounces all over the place. Mostly around 3 to 4 thousand rpms.So Friday I got a new one From the Dealer that I bought the boat from. It's a star craft boat so I had to get a Starcraft teck. It hooks up different. It has a slider and a clip on the bottom.Well it doesn't work at all. Nothing. I looked every place for a fuse box ,nothing. I guess the next thing to do is contact Starcraft and see what they have to say, If anything.
