1986 90 hp wont start

Motor has always ran good/ starter has its good days and bad.Went out over the weekend started up /took kids tubing/ sat around for a couple hours/went to start up and got nothing.No clicking or anything at starter or selenoid.Put in new ignition today but nothing.what do you think??????????Thanks John in R.I.

Got a volt meter or test light?
Start at the battery and make sure cable ends are clean and tight, check for voltage till you find your problem.

Check the 20 amp inline fuse at the starter, likely blown.

Ok then you are going to have to follow Daviets advice.

You said that your solenoid does not click when key is turned to start correct?

So first measure the voltage at the small solenoid terminal.
If no voltage is measured, troubleshoot the kill switch, battery, starter switch and neutral start switch in the controller.


If you are getting your 12.65 volts there, the solenoid is likely shot. Will jumping the solenoid turn the motor over?

well its not the selenoid/put a new one in today/still the same problem.guess i need to find a volt meter and someone that knows what they are doing

Finally got it/thanks for the input//////////////Continuity tester /somehow some way the yellow and red wire broke somewhere in the harness.Ran a new wire direct from key switch to the selenoid for now.May look into getting a new harness wire.Because if one broke then possible more could.Thanks john//////////////
