I have a Force 9.9 1987, no compression in the top cylinder. Where's the first place to look? Can reeds cause this problem?

Reeds don't usually cause that.A bad head gasket will.Remove the plug and look in for damage.Or remove the head and look at the gasket.J

Remove the plug and make sure the piston is moving when you turn the flywheel,a broken connecting rod will cause zero compression.

Thanks guys, it was the head gasket. Whats the best way to flatten the head? It has a little rock to it when I put it on a piece of glass, can slip a .003" shim under it.
