Hi, guys!
I got a Merc 60hp, 3cyl, 2stroke with a few issues. Serial 9385915.
Bad stator says mechanic. Installing a new stator wasn't such a hard task. Did it my self. The flywheel comes off after removing 7 small bolts around the center nut. The center nut remains in place. Now the stator comes off easely.
The stator fits just one way, and can't be misplaced.
The trouble comes when puting the fly wheel back on.
1.
I assume the ign. markings on the side of the fly wheel should correspond to the no.1 piston TDC. But i don't even know which piston is no.1.
How to tell wether the flywheel is in correct position?
2.
Where can I find wiring schemas for my perticular Merc ?
Pref. online.
3.
How do I check for spark?
4.
Which wire is the illuded stop wire?
5.
The stator has 5 wires. One black, one blue, one red, and two yellow.
How can I check it using a ohm meter?

Re: Merc 60hp Ignition-Timing

Now I finally got hold of a merc manual. But me being norweegian finding it hard to understand all the technical terminology.

Found piston no1.
Fly wheel is in correct position (ca).
When piston no1 is in pos TDC, timing pointer points at the timing marks on the side of the fly wheel.
Got hold of a ignition strob, lamp. All spark plug wires makes lamp blink.
Connecting lamp to wire for pist no1, shows that spark is present when timing pointer is within timing marks on fly wheel.
Took out no1 spark plug to check for spark. It's definatly there. Spark is good.

All this tells me
- Trigger OK (eletrically)
- Switchbox OK
- Stator OK (bought a new one - 3 week ago)
- ignition timing isn't way out of position

Never the less: motor fires a couple of shots when cranked, but the motor seems to fire backwards - as if plug ignites before TDC.

I am pretty much at the end of my rope. Need some quallified guessing of you guys. COME ON. Give me your best guess.
