Trouble finding Type C / Premium blend oil in UK?

Hi, I'm in the UK and have just bought a small speed boat with 1972 Johnson 65hp. After reading through the threads on this site I picked up some vital information regarding this motor and slowly sifting through must do's before launching this boat. One issue I have is replacing my gear oil, I have read the strict use of Type C or premium blend gear oil but don't seem to be able to locate this particular in the UK shops. One oil I have noticed that keeps coming up in my searches is Quicksilver premium blend, is this the correct oil to anyones knowledge?
And is it the same for the petrol mix, do I have to use a particular 2-stroke oil or can my engine use any quality motorcyle oil for instance?

Thanks.

after searching for quite some time now it seems I can still only find Premium Blend by quicksilver but only 4-cycle oil. Are there any other names that type C / Premium blend can go by ?

Thanks.

most motor cycles are air cooled engines, the outboard is a water cooled engine, it requires TC-W3 rated oil, nothing else, mixed 50:1, do the conversion. sierra products ha the type C for lower units. for premium blend, you will have to contact a BRP dealer for it. i know they are hard to find in the UK. type C is getting harder to find in the US also.

Hi Kwizz

As TD says a TCW3 2 stroke outboard engine oil for the fuel mix.

I use Quicksilver Premium 2-cycle Outboard Oil. It is the one which is readily available in the UK.

50:1 is 20ml per litre, 100ml per 5 litres

As far as the gear oil is concerned:

I suggest that you contact
Oakley Marine (aka Outboards-Direct and Oakley Motor units ) in Brighton http://www.outboards-direct.co.uk/home.html

or possibly Willsmarine in Devon http://www.willsmarine.co.uk/

for advice on the oils avaialble in the UK which are suitable for your electric shift.

Quote your full engine details, including the model number if possible emphasising that is has the hydra-electric type of shift.

Last time I dealt with Oakley an email enquiry resulted in a return phone call within a few hours so strongly recommend them!

Quicksilver incidentally use the "Premium" description for all their standard products. So not to be confused with BRP "Premium blend" oil for electric shift gearboxes

If you are dealing with NAPA, use the part number for quarts: 18-9620-2

Are we dealing with an electric shift gearcase which does require a special gear oil. Engine oil is not for use in this lower unit.

The part number is for the Teleflex Sierra aftermarket product, available internationally; a quart is 1/4 of a US gallon. The part number is for that sized container.
