Transom replacement question

I am restoring a 1970 lowe big john 1448. I want to replace the transom with new plywood. I think the original wood was marine, douglas fir, press/treated but i am not sure.

Should i hold out for this marine plywood or purchase regular pressure treated plywood from home depot? This boat is 40 years old and i want the new transom to last another 40 for my son.

What product should i use to laminate the two pieces together to make it 1.5" thick?

Re: Transom replacement question

You'll need to go ahead and spring for the marine grade plywood. They use a different procedure for PT now that renders it corrosive to aluminum. It used to be fine, but if you use it now it'll eat your transom. I assume the old plywood is or was attached with bolts. That's what you'll want to do this time as well, which means you won't really need to laminate the two pieces together as the pressure from the bolts and the motor clamps or bolts will take care of that for you. However, if you still want to join the pieces together just look for a glue that's suitable for a marine environment. I think Gorilla Glue will work.

I used regular 7 ply 3/4" and coated them in fiberglass resin, also I used the resin to stick them together.
