Sierra Gave me two Reed Plate Gaskets

I am re-installing my intake manifold and reed plate to my 1976 15 HP Evinrude and noticed that in my gasket package from Sierra, there are two "inner leaf plate" gaskets (18-0959-9)

I tried to order all OMC parts (the OMC part for this is 318924), however my dealer only had a Sierra one for this area. I am not sure if this is a manufacturing mistake or if Sierra wanted me to use two in this spot. I measured my OMC gasket for the intake manifold and it was about 0.040" thick. The Sierra gasket for the leaf plate is only 0.030" thick, so I thought perhaps this is why they want me to use two. So I assembled it with both gaskets.

I am not sure if I should have done this and since I do not have the powerhead back on yet, I thought I would ask the experts here on their opinion. Will using 2 gaskets here (each about 0.030" thick) cause the reed plate to work better, worse or probably make no difference?

Keep in mind they are on the motor now and to remove the plate may cause more problems then I may fix. I would rather not have to order more gaskets, simply due to the waiting time for them. I would appreciate your opinions.

Some of Sierra Gaskets come 2 pack.

Yours happen to one of them.

If you bought from a dealer they should have only given you one of them unless they were feeling generous.

As a rule of thumb....you never double gaskets on any intake area..you can create a vacuum leak....for proper seal you need a rigid mating surface on each side of the gasket....

Be careful, there is an innner (leaf plate to crankcase cover) and outer (leaf plate to manifold) gasket, they look almost identical but if you lay one atop the other you will see the differances.

One gasket per side of the leaf plate is standard, not two. Seems all aftermarket gaskets are always thinner than OEM.
