I consider myself part of the old guard and I just refuse to participate in that garbage. I have to admit it is stupid and yes I agree it has spiraled down fast! I know a few of the old guard that have left for those reasons.

I used to dread the oil discussions and bayliner bashing but I actually miss those times.

Bob

Re: Whats happening here?

Guys I like a little humor, not constant name calling and back and forth bickering where nobody is going to change anybody elses political opinion. But if you fellas want to fight all the time with no relief through humor, just say the word and Ill pull the plug.
The ridiculeing of the mods was done in jest to JB, I thought I knew him well enough to think he had a sense of humor about age, I developed one, I thought It came with the turff. Aparently I was wrong, and shall tell him in my e-mail to him, when Im wrong Ill admit Im wrong, when Im right Ill stick by my guns.
We posted a poll on the humor issue a while back, and it was clear the majority liked it. Maby its time for Dockside to evolve into 2 branches one for political only. I personaly dont think so, I think the stupid human tricks and good news section should be a part of dockside.

I belong to a couple of computer forums that require "x" amount of contributing posts in the help side in order to gain access in the general forum.

One of the other boating "help" forums requires paid membership to access general discussions.

Maybe it's time Iboats reviews DC.

Re: Whats happening here?

I don't like the political bickering when it gets away from polite discussion and gets into name calling, but at least it has substance.

I don't like the trash posting of meaningless drivel either. But my job is not to like or dislike anything. It is to keep the fora clean and orderly. Trash is disorderly.

I get a good laugh at some of the posts I delete. That doesn't make them acceptable in the family friendly environment, so I ZAP 'em.

I am particularly cranky today, and may be for some time because my broadband is down and somebody is supposed to call me tomorrow to make an appointment to change the Tx/Rx.

So I am on dial-up.

Tease the mod at your own risk.

I started this exact topic a couple of months ago, and it got locked based on post count. Tread lightly.

Not me. When I’m wrong, deny, deny, deny. Learned it from the Clintons.
:D

Edit: blaming it on woman is another possibility, but only if she isn’t around when the blaming is being done.

Re: Whats happening here?

Apparently things get ugly after (x) number of posts, so it was pre-emptively locked before anything went south. Never completely understood it, but as I have no intention or ability to perform the role of mod, so down the road to greener pastures I went. Probably for the best anyways.

But there were some particularly nasty threads going at that time that made it to fruition without being locked.

Understood. Maybe it is not a number but rather a tenor that sets the trigger. Not withstanding the "human" element. I think the mods earn every penny they get for the service they provide. ;)

Re: Whats happening here?

We all work hard at keeping this place orderly. At times its very challenging especially when someone starts with the flame throwing. But, we all do our best to keep the peace and make this a fun and relaxing place to sit a spell.

Each one of us mods have different ways of dealing with certain threads....all which are acceptable to the owners.

If you want to help us poor overworked moderators, just keep things fun!
