Will pink insulation board squeak?

After reading thread after thread on flotation foam. I've decided to use the pink/blue close cell insulation board(instead of noodles) as flotation foam in my aluminum Starcraft.

I'm going to try fit in as much of this foam board as possible in the hull.

Is it likely that the board will squeak if compressed between the floor boards and hull?

Yep, it'll squeak. Some dabs of Silicone will help.

You could try using the foam "Great Stuff" to secure and isolate the foam boards. You still might get some noise . . .

If it's of any value...

On my Jet Star project...

When I first secured the deck, it was squeaky like crazy. I thought "OOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnoooooooo!!!!!" Cuz I really hate squeaks and rattles n stuff.

Funny thing happened, it went away, pretty quickly too. Why? I dunno. Just rubbed or something? Maybe the friction just smoothed/slicked it out?

Got me:confused:

But I was happy all the same:D

Ok..that settles it. Pink board is OUT and noodles are back IN. I'll just put a lot of them in there so they compress. I'd rather buy extra noodles than have to deal with glueing the pink board etc.

I don't want to deal with all of the cutting/fitting anyway.

Pour in foam is about $8-$9 per cubic foot . . . So, would that be a consideration versus the rigid foam and 'noodles'? I'm not sure what turned you off on the pour-in approach ???

You'll find that noodles will be so much faster/easier to cut and fit, especially in your boat.

that carp has no place in a boat....it is insulation....and will absorb water.

dont compress then too much. the will actually take away from your flotation by compressing because the surface area is decreased.

Expense and it being too labor intense for my liking.

i know you dont want it.......but just for the record.......

pour in foam is the fastest flotation on the market.
i can do a raw foam....start to finish on 20 mins with the deck off.
if i pidgon hole it....add time to drill and replace the holes.

i can be done and drinking beer sitting on my boat deck by the time you have half the noodles cut.

Just for grins-and-giggles....How much would it cost to do my boat with pour-in foam? Wouldn't there be a bunch of prep work involved(covering keel drain channel) with pour in foam?

You may want to reconsider the pink board, noodles are actually more expensive for the same amount of floatation in noodles.

1 noodle floats about 10 lbs. of dead weight, 1 cubic foot of pink floats about 60 lbs.

1 sheet of 4'x8'x2" foam is 5.44 cubic feet for about $26

5.44x60=326.4 lbs. floatation

326.4 lbs floatation divided by 10 lbs floatation per noodle = 32 noodles. That's $32 if you can get them for just a buck apiece. You save at least $6 by using the sheet foam.

... and 32 noodles takes up a heck of a lot more space than a 4x8x2" foam does, cutting down on the efficiency of you floatation installation i.e a bilge filled with sheet foam will float considerably more weight than a bilge filled with noodles.
