While fishing about 1/2 mile off-shore at St. Marks Lighthouse, Florida, I lost my favorite fishing rod/reel.

The last remaining rod of my grandfather's is now swimming in the gulf of Mexico attached to something large.

My 7 year old daughter, hooked a shark (24") and was struggling to keep the rod tip up. I set mine down to help her (she landed the shark on her own) and not 5 seconds later the unattended rod/reel jumps up in the air and races through the water at incredible speed.

I don't know what upsets me the most. Losing my grandfather's fishing rod or not knowing what was the other end of the line.

After a few minutes, I was laughing about it (since there is nothing I can do about it anyhow).

I forgot to take a picture of the big shark, but here are a few other pictures of the day: web page
