Check your switches on the shifter assembly, next to the carburator (where your shifter cable goes and comes out on its way to the outdrive). There should be 2 switches, check if appropriate one is being pressed when you put your boat into forward and reverse.
When you see it is not hard to figure out.
There are few adjustable little thins in there, maybe one of them is off.

Common cause is the "short shift cable" the one that goes to the out drive is getting stiff and needs to be replaced.

Remove end from inside boat and see how easy it is to operate.

If it goes into forward and throttles up okay, but stalls out throttling up in reverse, you probably just have an incorrectly adjusted shift cable.
Look at the remote shift unit on the engine. That's the thing where the shift cable (which comes from the drive) and the control cable (which comes from the shift/throttle lever) meet. There is a an adjuster on it that may have come loose.
