Re: Triple solex carbs Accelerator pump symptoms

The pump adds an amount of fuel, guided by the movement of the throttle arm. It does this fast or slow according to the movement, but only when and during a certain part of the linkage movement.

Idle is not affected. Constant speed (any) is not affected.

Loss of accelleration could very well be related and a bugging experience when trying to get on plane is what you can expect when the extra fuel needed for accelleration is not supplied.

Sync of all carbs is important in this respect as in all performance related issues.

Fish, If you have to pump the throttle to get on plane, one or more of your solex's are in need of serious cleaning. There are some fine screens in these carbs which will easily plug with crap over time, especially if you do not have inline filter/separator. These carbs are very simple to clean. No real expertise needed, just be clean. Remove them one at a time and take apart, using gasoline and a baking pan to wash everything out. I have read before somewhere that "a monkey could do it" and I have to agree. Once cleaned, synchronize as instructed in a manual and you will have your boat back.

Good luck, David

1972 Glastron w/3 Solex's.

David just got back from boat and think I isolated the bad carb. Ran until it would run rough and then covered carb.Did this and two of them did nothing but the third made the boat plane. Guess this is my bad carb?

You probably found it, HOWEVER, I would still take the extra time and check them all. By the time you take them all apart it will only add another hour or so. It really is an easy job and it will make the boat go much better, if only in your mind.

David

David I am planning on doing them all.I was wondering if your carbs have a threaded hole on the right side just under the float bowl screw that has no screw in it??? It seems like it would be holding the choke tube in place? Seems like there should be one. thanks for the help.

Fish, My boat is at camp, 35 miles away or I would check, but if all 3 carbs are set up the same I think it is safe to assume nothing is missing. There really is no provision for a choke on these carbs. Just set them up properly and they will do the job.

Have fun.
