Straight dishwashing liquid on both the hose and the tube makes it a little easier, alcohol works even better, and a can of Mercruiser Power Tune makes it childs play.
Heat makes it worse.

Had to get that end on a while ago,but what I did that made it simple was to force a pliers in the end and stretch it open for about 2 inches and I held it that way for a few minutes.Pulled the pliers and immediately pushed it on the fitting as far as it would go and clamped it.The end stayed stretched long enough to make it slide on as far as it should.Charlie

Re: outdrive water supply hose

I recently did this as a rookie who had never done the project before. I used straight dish soap, mild profanity, and some skinned knuckles. TWIST & PUSH! My hands were sore for a day or two...it takes a bit of a strong grip to get it done.

If you think that end is hard, just wait till you try to install the other end...I struggled there a bit worse than the end by the gimble you're working on now.

As tempting as it may be, do NOT give up and say "good enough" until it actually bottoms out. You run a high risk of suddenly losing all engine cooling if this thing slips off. Get it on there properly.

Hi Rob,

A technique from a poster I've used twice.

Removed the barb at the top, its done by disconneting the interior hose and working it out, its mostly stuck due to friction with the rubber sealing grommet. Profanity does help too.

Onece out, fitting the hose over it is easy, clamp and install it onto the housing and fit the bell housing end.

Yeah, its late advice, sorry.

Qystan

next time try using a pot of boiling water ,immerse the end and use a socket etc. to expand it a little. a spare input work fairly well also for alignment
