1974 Ford 302 Merc 256s: I am replacing the coupler but can't get the flywheel housing to come loose. Any tips (yes, the bolts are out!)I don't want to pry on anything that might break off. Thank you in advance.

I may be wrong but isn't there a bolt for the bellhousing inside the starter motor hole?

Aldo

Dunaruna: The starter is off, but I'll look inside the hole. Thanks

I checked, there is no bolt in the starter hole. Is it OK to tap on the housing to knock it loose? Or is there some other way break the seal?

It's probably stuck on the dowls. Tap away, slow and steady.

Aldo

I have used a block of wood and placed the butt of it against the housing and hit that with a hammer

You were correct, Dunaruna. It was snug on the dowels. A bit of tapping with a rubber mallet, along with a block of wood (per Jeff13601) did the trick. Thanks for the tips.

I cant take the credit. I got the idea from either rodbolt or tommays.
