Corrosion is a big problem on my engine and I have scraping and applying anticorrosive paint wherever I can. How do you protect the internal part of the engine epsecially where salt water runs thru?

I flush mine everytime when I get home. I am a long way from salt water though.

I already have salt-x but this only removes the salt formations. I use this also to flush my trailer brakes and washdown entire trailer. I am looking for rust flush/treatment. If the engine exterior and parts are affected by rust, I can't imagine what's happening inside. Maybe no one has used it or not necessary at all...

I got a reply on a similar post last year and the reply was from a respected member, maybe Rodbolt but I am not sure. They recommended running a solution of muriatic acid and water through the system and letting it sit for an hour or two.You may be able to find it in a search.Try "flushing motor and my name and you may come up with it.I got good results from the salt away so I did not take it any further.

If you're ok just with the salt remover, then that's enough for me.

I used this acid on my power washer to spray it on the driveway while cleaning, and this thing burned almost anything that's plastic and rubber in the power washer. I mean plastic filter, seals, gaskets. No muriatic acid for me.

The large center hole, that's where the exhaust gas passes, right? And the raw water passes thru the side, rectangular holes?

If you and I are correct, then it looks like the water passages are corroded. But then after 10 years, they may still be in excellent shape. They probably are since previous threads report that these manifolds last about 5 years on salt water. Mine is only 5 years and I have more evidence of corrosion than those pix.

Re: Do You Flush and Use Engine Rust Remover?

If you knock away the rust and scale, whats left is new metal to rust and scale. Rust never sleeps. Salt is forever. Just flush the best ya can with fresh water. I leave my big boat (raw saltwater cooled) in salt for 3 months, and just start it up at least once a week (if you left it running it would probably never corrode), and when I pull it for the season, flush with saltaway. In your case, manifolds in 5 years of salt depend on how LONG in use, and if they were flushed with a salt away product, fresh water, etc. If you can see that there is a lot of rust and scale...replace. Cheaper than a new motor when one lets go and fill you motor with saltwater
