In Line 6 cyl, Merccruiser, 165 horse I believe. Pumping wqter in the oil. Almost 10 liters with oil I pumped out. Any obvious things to be looking for besides head gasket. It must be pretty obvious when I tear it down with that much water. It's mid 80's. This is a great foroum

look at the head gasket first, then examine all the bores with the piston all the way down, possably #1 cylinder is cracked just behind the thermostat area.If no cracks are apparent ,wipe the bores clean and fill the block with water up to the block deck, let stand, then check bores for water drops.

With the IL6, I would always suspect the manifold first.<br />Bound to be one or two vertical cracks in the back walls of the 2+3, or 4+5 exhaust ports of the manifold, pouring water into your engine.

Got the manifold off, I can't see any cracks, gonna have them magnifluxed to see if any cracks can be seen. If there was a crack there, wouldn't there be water in the culinders also. There was no visible sign . Thank you so much for the info,, Great Foroum
