Did you put the positive and negative cables on the battery correctly? Do what Tommays asked and give more info..

Went back and read your other article.

Did you replace the solenoid....Or did you replace the complete starter and solenoid assembly?

If you only replaced the solenoid, go back and get the starter also.

From your previous post I would bet your starter was the problem that burned the solenoid out.

Some reasons for multiple starter failure;
1..miss alignment of starter and flywheel
2..oil or water saturation
3..low voltage to starter ie; battery, cables, connections
4..long cranking periods ie; hard to start
5..Autozone quality starters

Re: replaced starter with no success

From your other post you described a clicking from the part that has a wire going to the center of the distributor. I posted a picture and you confirmed that was what was clicking. However that is a coil and has absolutly nothing to do with the starting system. Of course there is a start slave solenoid next to it that is probably your problem.
Next time it clicks, check to see that there is power to the big yellow/red wire on the solenoid.

Don,
Where do you get these great diagrams? Do real Mercruiser Techs have electronic copies of the manuals?

Wake

All it takes is to scan an image from a manual and use a program like "Paint" on your computer to put in the words and pointers. All the red I added to a picture from a service manual.
Yes, Mercruiser dealers do have access to some of the manuals (But not ALL). And don't ask, they are not emailable and I wouldn't abuse the pivilege by sharing it without permission from Mercruiser anyway.
