shift cable wrapping

I have a 1990 4.3liter alpha one drive. I went on vacation and had a friend take it apart (what a mistake) well finally its ok except he forgot where the shift cable wrapping came off. He says its either inside bellows or behind the shift slide. I dont have access to manual at this point. I just need to know where the wrapping goes on. I wasnt there when it was taken apart. Thank you for any info.

most the time I cant get it all the way back down. some boats just dont have access. its a chafe gaurd and is desined to keep the cable from rubbing on the exhaust pipe and transome shield. good luck with it
