How to remove starter on OMC 5.7

don't have a 5.7 but you can use the search feature and find multiple posts on starter removal advice.

it will be somewere between as easy as putting a wrench on the bolts <br /><br />and if your boat builder was mean pulling the motor<br /><br />i would dissconect the battery FIRST<br /><br />tommays

Disconnect the battery. Take out anything and everything you can in the way. Old clothes, couple wrenches, forget all the swear words ya know, because you will make up new ones before your done. Watch for any shims, and if you don't have a shop manual, get one, as they are a lot cheaper than the mechanic you will soon meet if you don't. Welcome to Iboats, and good luck, as those bolt from the bottom up. Should be 2 bolts

Thanks a lot ... I finally got it off ... it was toast ... but in my haste to get it off ... I didn't pay as much attention as I should have to the wires.<br /><br />There is a big bolt and two small ones. I remember that the small one closest to the engine block had the yellow one (The key switch I think)<br /><br />There is also a small purple wire ... which I assume goes on the other small bolt. <br /><br />Does it make sense that the thick red one coming from the battery switch and two thick black ones all connect to the big center bolt?<br /><br />thanks in advance

Can't help ya there ..I have a Volvo, and don't want to send ya the wrong way. Brain went south saying 2 bolts...sorry...getting senile.

You were correct about the two bolts on the bottom. These 3 bolts I'm referring to are the connectors on the solenoid.<br /><br />Cheers<br />L
