Hi, I just bought my first boat a 1989 larson 215 with a mercruiser 170 hp engine. The boat ran great the first 8 times I took it out, but now i see oil and water in the bilge area. I am also losing about a quart of oil a day. Can anyone tell me what it is or what i should look for. thank you<br />rick hcir68@aol.com

Look for a leak. There are a number of places that could leak oil and water. Best thing to do is clean the engine off and dry everything then run it and see what's leaking. Flashlights and mirrors are in every marine mechanics tool chest.

Welcome to Iboats! I would look at the oil pan, timing chain cover with a mirror.Sometimes they corrode through, espiecially if they see alot of salt water use. Wipe everything down and see if there are any obvious leaks.

Another spot to check is the oil cooler. located on the underside of the intake manifold. If it is used on your motor.the "O" ring seal usually leaks
