i just bought a I/O 1994 Regal 17ft , with a 4.3 v6. I had it on the water for about 2 hours and then came in. everything ran great, except when I trailored and pulled my plug, I had about a gallon of water come out. What is the possible verdict?

Did you ever get back in the boat after swimming, make a sudden slow down and the wake come over the back?
Other possibles reasons: Torn bellows, leak in the transom, lots of possible reasons.
BTW...welcome to iboats!

I called the guy I bought it from he said it has never leaked. This boat is in xint condition for its age, he's only saling it because of cancer.
We never swam or ski'd water never went over the top. But I know that I did not put the plug in really tight just snug. Its possible that it wasnt tight enough. I recall it could have been alot tighter

Put the plug in tighter next time, take a look under the engine cover for any obvious leaks- Loose hoses, clamps, etc. Any water is a lot if you didn't leave the boat or get any spray, you'll just have to keep your eyes open. It may be just the plug.....J

Thats probably not the cause.Iy could be something as simple as having it on the wrong angle while in your driveway and some water collecting and moving towards the front of the boat. You will need to get the boat on a great angle to be sure all the water is out of it.Inspect all the rubber bellows while moving the drive from side to side and up and down.Look for any tears ,cracks wear spots etc.If nothing is found at that point Then install the plug tightly and put it in the water. Before you go anywhere take a flashlight into the bilge and look for a source of water.Listen for dripping. If no luck at that point ,start the motor up and look all over and under the motor especially at the hoses and manifolds and water pump. Also put the light on the inside of the transom where the drive shaft come through the hull.Charlie

check the block and manifold drains to make sure they are closed completely, many times they are left open after being winterized.....

I found leakage in my "new" used boat too and found it was the plug. Haven't had a chance to get a new plug, but I slap some non-drying pipe thread compound on it when I put it in and the leak went away. As someone already mentioned, I have also found that a gallon or so of water can sometimes be further toward the bow (not in engine compartment) and it later slops back to the engine compartment which didn't have any.

after a rain my boat will only let the water out while on the ramp. I also thought I had a leak when my cooler drain opened.
