got a new problem here: 1980s mercruis 470.
-hard to start, seems very low idle and barely running. Put it in gear and stalls. Sounds like a miss as it shakes and shimmies.
-at mid speeds runs great!
-give her full throttle and bogs down, sputters, as if not getting gas or no spark.
-occasionally and mid speeds while running great, she'll sound as if running out of gas and ready to die, then suddenly back to normal?

I shall try new pluds and wires. I hpoe this rookie is on the right track.
Any ideas? Me wife's gonna kill me!

Re: no power

When was the last time it had a complete tuneup. You know, points, condenser, cap, rotor, sparkplugs, dwell set, timing reset, advance timing checked, carb mixture and idle speed set, a proper compression test, fuel filters, etc. You know, the normal yearly tuneup in the spring type thing.

Re: no power

When was the last time it had a regular tune?

Plugs, points/condenser, fuel filter. Be maticulous with the point gap (use a dwell meter if at all possible) and timing.

Do that first, then repost if it's still missing.

That is, as usual, my 2cents worth ;)

Oh, and welcome to iboats!!!!!!

Edit: Didn't see your post Don, sorry.

Aldo
