For the last several seasons at my seasonal dock, I have only used the over the side boat fenders. They worked effectivly and done their job. However I have ended up with to spots on the side of my boat where the fenders rest. With rubbing compound and elbow grease I am able to get the spots out before the season begins.

One time last year while pulling into my slip at night, I was so close to the dock that my bilge pump fitting was shaved off by the edge of the dock.

I was thinking about getting a roll of the vinyl padding to put on the wood planks that line the inner side of the slip.

The boat is 27 foot and weighs about 7500 pounds.

My question is, SHould I just keep using the method I have been? Do I just use the dock padding without the fenders? Or should I use both for added protection? I know I will still end up with spots on my hull, but that doesn't really bother me that much.

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

Around here, the Favorite Trick is to line the side of the dock with Old Fire Hose.....
It's nailed on in a Ruffled pattern /\/\/\/\/\/\,....
This gives you a 3 or 4" Buffer Zone.......
Just get Friendly with your local Fire Dept....
Hoses that don't pass muster are disposed of....

With, or without the fenders is your own Choice.....

Use normal fenders on your boat along with some bumper rail on the dock.

There are cushions and wheels made specifically for docks. It’s only a matter of $$$. I like Bondo’s idea of old fire hose. Real mariners nail old tires to their slips…probably a warning to automobiles…something like cannibals putting a shrunken head on a stick to warn tourists… :)

You can buy or make fabric socks for your over-the-side fenders so they don’t rub the shine off your boat’s finish.

Around here a lot of slip rental agreements require you to leave any improvements you make so if you pay for slip cushions and/or wheels, they stay when you go.
