I know all about Cobalt quality but how do these boats hold up in the long term? Assuming the engine is good, would a 19-21 foot Cobalt last for 20-25 years?

Would you say, buy a 1980 Cobalt over a 1990 Searay if the money and equipment were the same?

Would Cobalt have had a lifetime hull warranty back then and are they transferable? What sort of limitations?

Re: Old Cobalts

To answer your question...YES as long as it is taken care of.

I just bought a '87 Cobalt (first I/O boat) 17BR with a 4.3 175hp mercruiser about 5 months ago. It cruises around 30 and maxes out around 45mph @ 4800 WOT. The thing I hate about it is the fact that it has carpet that can't be taken out, so if I wash it out then the carpet stays wet for days. Everything is in great shape except for some rotting wood on the port side of the engine where the battery sits. It's an area of about 2' x 3' I just noticed 2 days ago that an area in the bow is rotten also. I may trade it in to get rid of the headache but I may also keep it and fix it since it's such a pretty boat and the engine is still going strong?

Anybody want to buy it? $3000. :p
