I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much it should cost to replace both exhaust elbows and a manifold on a 1986 Chevy 350/5.7. Also if bad elbows would cause water to get into engine. Did leak test on manifold and it was ok, but not in very good shape. I was also wondering about how many labor hours it would take to do it? Thanks

Type of boat?1986?Pass time on replacing the exhaust manifolds and risers.Parts are around $500 to $600,thats manifolds, risers, new clamps and some hoses.Time, bank on 8 to 10 hours shop time if no bolts break off in the block, but then again you didn't state what type of boat.

A sbc with new risers should take two hours a side, Max! .....J

Jkopec
I have 3 you can do if you promise to only bill me two hours on each boat.
one hull will require the engine box to be dissasembled the other two require the engine to be lifted about 3 inches so the manifolds can clear the studs.

Thanks alot for the information, its a 21ft cuddy. Water started getting in the engine when I installed a new impeller. The old impeller was shot. I hope this will solve the water problem, thanks again.

Scolded by the teacher again. :( Rodbolt, I will always defer to your superior knowledge. However, I did say two hours per side . It was irresponsible of me to quote something like that without knowing the year/ make /model. Both of my Chris Crafts, (I miss them) and my other friends various boats all had SBC's, and they were all way easier to work on than my SBF. I stand corrected........J

You might luck out. Mine were really easy. 1 hour and both sides were done. Lots of room, and the bolts all came out without any fight!

I could do the same with both of my boats, I guess it's a matter of how well the boat was kept up & how much room you have to work. Good luck to you. :) ...J

Re: Exhaust Elbows and Manifold & Water

sometimes its easy
I have worked on boats that you could lay down and sleep in the engine box and others that required the console to be removed
saying its a 24 cuddy is like saying the car is red. still does not help much :)
Jkopec
was just funnin with ya, but the offer stands :) :) . I have put it off to long so I have to get that done as well. along with 11 other repowers on my board. but I have had some that I cut off with a sawzall and removed the manidolds in pieces. a shamrock with a center console is about the worst. or maybe a few donzi models.
I used to work on a donzi with a 260 merc that the first oil filter change was cause the original filter finally rusted through. had to lift the motor to gain clearence to remove the filter. had a remote mount on the way back in.

I had a Shamrock, and yes it was a bit-h to work the back end of the engine. The boat I have now has twin 350's,the outsides of the engine are just about impossable to get to.Working inbetween them is hell at best and all this is down in a hole.
