trying to fill out my meager knowledge. I know there is a difference in mechanical fuel pumps between automotive and marine- how about electric fuel pumps? Is there a difference? I do not want to create a safety issue but neither do I want to put money into a marine pump that is no different from a fored or chevy.

The short answer is yes, there is a difference, and the differences are saftey issues.

A MARINE mechanical pump has a drain vent in the event the bladder should malfunction. Leaked fuel is fed via a drain hose to the carburater. In an automotive pump, fuel is allowed to drain to the ground via a pee hole... you don't want fuel dripping into your bilge....KABOOM!.

Marine electric pumps are constructed of materials less likely to corrode in the marine environment and sealed to prevent any motor sparks from igniting fumes in the bilge.

Well worth the extra $40 or so for your safety, don't you think??
