I replaced the fuel pump on my 350 Mag today.
What a bi**h of a job. It took me 4 hours to remove the old pump, go to the store for a new fuel line in between the pump and the filter that broke, remove the plate so I could push the rod back up, reinstall the plate and install the new pump! I didn't even get to connect the fuel lines yet. I ran out of time! Can't work on it tomorrow either!

I am dying to see if this fixes my "bogging" problem.

Probably won't know until sometime next week now!

for the pump rod, look for a bolt on the front of the motor inline with the rod, remove it(real short) install a longer one to hold the pump rod up, replace with the short bolt when done.fuel lines under suction(before a pump) can be rubber, steel lines must be used after a pump.

Wish I knew about this "short" bolt before I did this job today! It (the rod) must have "fallen" back down 6 times before I got it back in!

You could of put some packing grease on the rod to hold it in place.

I did that..........had such a difficult time starting the bolts that it fell down a few times and I had to remove the plate several times to pust the rud back up again! That's what took me so long!

I am very sore today!

You may be very sore today, but maybe this will fix your problem, I have been following your posts and feel for you, nothing like a boat that will not run correctly.

Thanks novice........it's raining here today.
Don't know if I will be able to finish today!
I still have to connect the fuel lines!

I spoke to the previous owner last week.
He said last year he had a severly clogged pick-up screen/tube.

I am hoping this damaged the diaphram inside the pump causing my problem!

Check the fuel pressure once again (really need a low pressure guage for a more accurate reading) just to be sure the fuel pressure is within specs now.

If it is........ Its time to get the boat out of the water and pull the drive.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement- Remeasured Pressure

You got a 300 RPM improvement. Did you blow out the fuel line between the pump and the carburator to be sure there is no obstruction. Also did you check the filter at the inlet to the carburator. Being you got a 300 RPM improvement with a new pump it's possible some debris from the old pump could have gotten to the filter that is usually found in the carburator inlet fitting.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement- Remeasured Pressure

Let's be a little more accurate.......it was still bogging at 3500 but this is the best yet.
I thought about the line between the pump and carb...........the filter at the inlet of the carb should be fine......the carb is brand new.

Shooting in the Dark here,...............
Did you verify the repair..???
Is there a collapse(internally,.. possibly) in the line going from the tank to pump..???

Is there Still $-it in the Tank..???

He said he tried a seperate fuel tank hooked directly to the fuel pump with no change.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement- Remeasured Pressure

Don is correct there..........the only thing I haven't checked is the fuel line between the pump and carb.

The only other thing I have not replaced is the sensor in the dist.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement- Remeasured Pressure

Yer right, throw some more money at it before you find the problem.
The sensor either works or it don't, and your's does because the engine runs.

Pull the boat out of the water and find the flippin exhaust restriction..........

 :(

You've got a 15" or 17" prop,.?... And you've tried Different 1s,.?? Right..??

Even if that had a 1.32/1 outdrive,.... seems it should do better than that........

I'm at a Loss..........

Tony, just look in the yellow pages - there are plenty of boat haulers that will pull it, move it and put it on jack stands anywhere you want for like $100 - $150
