Thanks for looking at this post first of all<br />I have a 1989 Bayliner Trophy 245 hardtop with Cobra outdrive was rebilt in 2003,i installed a Jasper 5.8 or 351 remanufactured engine this<br />Spring i have been very busy so i just got to take her out this past weekEnd she ran at 160+when we got under way when i got the RPMS up to 3200 she started getting hot ran to red so i idled back down and she cooled back off.<br />it was more hot on the right side facing the motor from the Pilots chair<br />OK the Risers are only 2 years old with very little use.the Thermostst is new but i took the old water pump off the old engine because it was new in 2003 and had little use it looked very good after careful inspection so i used it.i could be a little off on the Timing but it idles and cranks freely so cant be to far off it has electronic ignition also.

Any chance you hooked up the water cooling lines backwards? <br />How's the impeller in the outdrive look?

impeller is new.but it would be easy to look<br />at as i installed it 2 days before i went out but like the post said the old impeller looked new but i replaced it anyway.but i will heck it<br />as for the Hoses.i believe it would be hard to<br />hook them up backwards from what i see.<br /> www.marineparts.com/partspages/OMC/OMC27.htm<br />my setup looks nothing like this as im trying to find a diagram.that looks like it

well the outdrive impeller looks good.the book i got from the Library had the diagram thats pictured in the Link.i dont want to buy a manual thats useless anymor suggestions ? and thank you all

a lot of people get better results installing a compleat water pump kit not just the inpeller<br /><br /><br />it can be hard to say if the liner and other parts have damage that can reduce water flow<br /><br />after that you have to look at what may be keeping water from leaveing the motor<br /><br />i would check things like the timeing and not assume they are OK ,i have had small things like a cloged carb fuel filter lean out the motor enough to run hot <br /><br /><br />tommays

A quick check of the impeller is to disconnect the hose at the thermostat housing coming from the drive. Hook up the muffs and with water on start the engine. You should be abel to fill up a two gallon bucket fairly quick. <br /><br />If it does your problem is isolated to the engine compartment. If it does not, it's back to square one with the impeller/housing.<br /><br />There have been recent posts where the new impeller spun on the shaft hub.

when i replaced the impeller i went with new everything sorry i didnt mention that in the post there is also at the top of the motor a <br />mechanical device,or housing that 3 or 4 hoses hook to maybe a cooler or something of the sorts my book doesnt show it though i will try the wayer output tofrom the outdrive that seems like a good place to look.im at work so cant remember how many hoses hook to that housing darn im getting OLD<br /> thank you all for the input

Don't get a manuel, get a dictionary and an English book so you can learn some spelling, punctuation, etc. Your posts were so difficult to read that I gave up.

Sorry Sea Wolf and others.<br />Ill try again the Cobra outdrive has a new complete water pump kit installed two weeks ago.im going to try what KAGEE has recommended to unhook the<br />hose from the thermostat housing coming from the outdrive and see how fast i can fill a gallon jug up.<br /> also at the top of the engine there is a housing that three hoses hook up to.just to the left and more to the front of the Carburetor.<br />i may have these hoses hooked up wrong.<br /> Thank you all for your time

Sounds like you have closed cooling, maybe there is the problem, in that the hoses are not routed correctly. Most OMCs come with a 160 stat and they usually run at 160 to 170 or so depending on the load and water temp.

If the timing is too retarded or advanced, it will run hot. Make sure the base timing is correct.

I work n construction and its been to hot here in VA. to fool with the boat so far this week<br />i will be sure and check the timing also<br /> Thank you all
