Still working on that 96 4.3lxh and I was just curious if it was necessary to pull the engine in order to remove the oil pan...I have tried to drop it removing 6 bolts on either side but I suspect that there are a couple of bolts under the flywheel cover near the rear main. If it is necessary to pull the engine would anyone have a recomendation on where to buy a reasonably priced alignment tool? Thanks for all of your help.

Re: 4.3LXH Gen+ oil pan

Just to clarify I don't want to completly remove the oil pan just drop it enough to remove the timing chain cover, I suspect there maybe to much play in the chain and hate to have to pull a whole engine just to find out. Also, I have the same diagram in my parts catalog for these engines(same s/n as the engines) but the oil pan on the engine doesn't match the diagram. The one on the engine actually flares out just behind the starter and the oil filter to butt up to the flywheel cover if that makes sense also the two front studs shown on the diagram aren't on this engine. Thanks.
