OMC and Mercruiser 120

Help needed for a newbie.<br /><br />Could someone please tell me if the block for a 1972 OMC 120 is the same as the block for a 1980s Mercruiser 2.5l 120?<br /><br />My Mercruiser's is cracked, but the rest of the motor has very low hours. I REALLY don't want to spend 1200 for a short block replacement, so I'm a bit desperate. <br /><br />I did a search, but could not determine whether or not this would work. Finding used block seems to be very difficult for this motor.<br /><br />Thanks in advance!

The Basic Bare Block,... Should be the Same Casting,..........<br />There were Changes in the Mid-Late-80s.......<br /><br />But,.. Even Then,... There's "Work-a-rounds".....<br /><br />I don't know Where in Ontario you're at,.......<br />But,.. I've got a "Plug,+ Play" mid80s 3.0l, 140hp Mercruiser that'll drop Right Into your engine bed,.. Sitting in My Garage............

Hmmm, unfortunately I'm in Barrie, north of Toronto. It would cost me a buck-or-two in gas to get over your way.<br /><br />What's the motor's story, and how much are you looking for?

And I assume by 'plug + play', you mean alternator, starter, etc etc, and that I'd literally be able to drop it into this 16' Invader after removing the 2.5?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />GWN

Sorry Guys,....... I kinda Lost this thread,........<br /><br />It's a Complete,.. All Assessories,.. Drop-in,.. Plug In,+ Go motor,......<br /><br />It's "Dressed" with Alpha 1 assessories from 1985/87,....... Everything Works,.. although the Starter is Pretty Weak,.... Good Core maybe,.. I wouldn't try to Run it.....But, That'sa the only Issue with it.....<br />Good Solid Compression,.. Good Carb.,.. Good Manifolds,....Good Alt.,...<br /><br />I think it's worth $1000.00.........<br />But,..... I Am an old Horse Trader...... <br /><br />Try me at bbondoATgmail.YouKNowWhat...........
