I recently was at lake for two weeks, just after boat was in shop for u-joint leaking. After fixed went to lake and today when got home noticed this. I think it is oil though not really sure, gear oil full and so is engine oil.

Now you have the pic hosted in photobucket, resizing is easy.

In photobucket, above the pic, is the 'edit' button. Click on that and it gives you many options for resizing but be careful, once reduced it cannot be made bigger again. If you reduce it too much you will need to delete the pic and re-upload it.

Re: I can't figure what this is?

Could it be "water diluted grease", that is water with the grease mixed in, leaking out of the drive bellows?? Since you just had the drive serviced (I assune the ujoints and gimball greased) there would be a bit of excess grease around, kind of flys off the ujoints and splatter on the inside of the bellows. If water leaked in, got spun about from running, then leaked out the same way it got in, it might drip down the drive, then the boat transom????? Just trying to think a bit. It is hard to tell from the pic what it is.

I have alot more pics, whatever it is is coming directly out of bottom where drive is sealed on transom.

Are we looking at a trim pump mounted on the transom? Those hoses look like high pressure?

It is bottom of sterndrive, I believe those are hoses for trim, but whatever it is. It is coming out bottom of where stern bolts to transom. It leaked while trailoring.

Ron, are you saying that its possible for water diluted grease to leak out bottom of sterndrive where it bolts to the transom. I'm also having a water intrusion is bilge which I never had before.

Re: I can't figure what this is?

Had drive off today with person that did work, checked ujoints, yoke, drive bellows, upper shift shaft seals, shift cable bellows, I believe that is all, everything ok according to mech. He was not sure where it is coming from or should I say what it is. There was not water intrusion in outdrive. If any of this is helping. I'm just ready to go down with the ship

looks like the transom seal has failed. with the drive level try standing on the aft end of it and bouncing. have someone look for any transom flexing. any flex means a bad transom. but it could also be the gaskets under the transom bolt anodes are missing or defective. will be worth a look.

RODBOLT to the rescue again, I thought everybody gave up on this post. Used car jack to flex drive when did more of that stuff came runnig out. Does this mean it is water that is inside of transom? Also tightened bolts that mount drive to the stern. Got 5 turns on left side and 8 on the other. Should the bolts have been this loose? My transon might be bad. How can I really tell, or what I mean is their another test I can due. Thanks rodbolt.

Matt

I'm guessing the pic is of your '85 cuddy. Were the bolts you tightened inside your boat? Get a rubber mallet and "sound" your transom from the outside. Knock the transom in several places, it should ring and feel solid. Rot will make a dull thud. The pics look like the transom plate seal has failed.

Some type of sealer around the transom plate. May not be the best idea and getting it back off may be an issue. It doesnt look nice either and if still there when you go to sell it will not help you.

Re: I can't figure what this is?

what is a transom plate shield, or what does it look like, and what do the gaskets under the transom bolt anodes look like. Sorry for all the questions, and thanks
