Mercruiser / Alpha 1 overheating

Hi everyone! I have a 1988 Wellcraft 192 with a Mercruiser Model 470R and Alpha 1 outdrive. The engine is overheating. This is a heat exchanger system. The water intakes are clear and have suction on both sides ouf the outdrive. From the outdrive, I am only getting water and exhaust out of the starboard exhaust hole but am getting only exhuast out the port side.<br />I have not checked the exhaust elbow yet; would this be the place to start troubleshooting? I have a 488, also a 3.7 merc. Exhaust only comes out starboard side on mine too, I think this is normal. Suction on both sides of outdrive? You're not running it without water are you? Have you changed the impeller?
