Re: OMC service manual
If you can find a new one still available from a Johnson/Evinrude dealer, definitely go that route. Gotta be a J/E dealer somewhere reasonably close if you're in PA. Or look one up on the internet, I'm sure they'd mail it to you if they can get it. Unfortunately I've gotta feeling they may be hard to come by. Lou C probably bought the last one!

The 985288 sounds like the drive number. Weird, but I don't see that particular number listed in the table of Cobra models in my Clymers manual, (pages 71-75 when you get yours). The drive numbers listed for 1988 models all start with 9852, but the 5.0Ls end in '71' or '72' and the 5.7Ls end in '73' or '74'.

Wonder if the model number isn't there because it was upgraded from a 5.0 to a 5.7L? Model number is 8 or 9 digits with the last 6 of them letters.

Anyway, for either a 5.0 or 5.7 1988, looks like you'd want a service manual for GDP models.

I personally wouldn't want to go with the manual for RDG Models. i believe that changes from year to year were minor, but 4 years difference would be a bit too much for me....

From what I can tell, the 507708 manual looks like it's the one for 1988 Cobras, but don't hold me to it. In addition to the Service Manual, I'd get an OMC Parts Catalogue as well....
