I changed the outdrive, after changing outdrive the boat would not start. The motor is not firing. Does changing the outdrive have anything to do with the engine not firing? The motor is a 1992 MerCrusier with thunderbolt IV electrical, (a 5.7 liter I think)but it is a 350. Any help with this would be greatly appericated.

Re: Motor Not Firing

Removing the drive should have nothing to do with the motor not starting. Does it crank over? What have you checked. Battery condition, loose terminals, is the Emergency Safety switch installed?

Re: Motor Not Firing

Welcome to iboats :) Do you have a kill switch safety lanyard? :) There is no relationship between removing the drive and a 'no spark' condition. Answer Bars questions (and mine). Then go to the 'search' section and look for a post by Don S. about trouble shooting ignition systems. I think it is under 'starter is dead'. Maybe someone can hook you up with the link.....JK

Re: Motor Not Firing

you know, pulling the drive on a Merc requires the shift be in gear. Maybe it was never returned to neutral.

Re: Motor Not Firing

The drive may be binding the cable from the drive if it was installed improperly. Then the shift interrupt switch (If an Alpha drive) would be held to the engaged position which would kill the ignition.
If you have an Alpha drive, here is a link to the online manual.
Just move your cursor over the cover and index pages to find the links to the other sections.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf

So Don, you're saying that the 'fork' on the shift slide is not engaged to the 'wheel' on the shift lever? Correct? You don't miss anything ...... :D ......JK

Check all of the connections. Maybe you accidentally bumped something loose while working of things. Check at the selenoid, the coil, and even so far as the ignition switch.
