Last April I purchase a used 2002 Edgewater 175 CC with a 115 Yamaha 4 Stroke. I looked at boats for several years and struggled back and forth between a center console and a dual console. I finally bought the cc because I got a decent deal on it and I figured the it would be easier to resale in my area (southeast GA.). I am not a big fisherman and wanted the boat to get out on the water with my wife and 2 year old son.

Late last year we went to a local island and on the way back we encountered slightly rough seas. I say slightly the wife describes it as a mini hurricane. My son feel asleep in his mother's arms and she had a time hanging on to him and trying to stay seated on the cooler seat. She is reluctant to go back to the island with the boy even though he is a year older.

I am now thinking that the dual console might have been a better choice. I was thinking about putting in an ad to possibly trade boats just to see what sort of offers I might get. What is everyones opinion on doing this? Or should I just trade it in to a dealer, or sell it out right and buy a dual console with more deadrise? What are the opinion?

Seems to me that you have wife issues as well as boat issues. I'd make darn sure that she would be comfortable with a dual console before I spent a bunch of cash on a trade only to find out that boating is not her thing. Could you rent or borrow one before you do anything else?

AN outright sale, then purchase what you want, will probably work out best, both financially and the number of choices you have.

Although the boat is new enough that a dealer may take it as a trade-in, it will cost you.

It sounds to me like you need to be a bit more specific. A 17 foot boat is a bay type . If you want to venture out into deeper waters youd better have a 23 footer or better. As far as your wife and child go a CC or dual console is a matter of preference. CC s are a utilitarin type boat. more room for fishing on the deck etc. A cudy will give you room in the bow for sleeping or getting out of the weather but I wouldnt want to be down ther in a rugh sea.

Sell it outright. Buy a DC or walk around cuddy and make sure it has a canvas top, weather curtains, etc for foul weather. Last but not least, slow it down and enjoy the ride.

You should try to sell it on your own. Selling it on your own will give you the best chance to get the most $$$. IMHO a dual console or cuddy would be better suited for a young family. Good luck on whatever you decide.
