Has anybody ever heard of a device used to stick in the mud in shallow water to anchor a boat from the stern? A friend asked me and I've never seen or heard of one. He just recently bought a 17' bay boat and I think he's looking for something other than an anchor for use when he's boating alone. This thing supposedly mounts on the transom and is easy to deploy without walking around the console.

Kinda gaudy looking but they work. Its for relatively shallow water use. They have one with a remote control.

I'm curious, how does it handle swells, especially since it anchoring the stern? Is this strictly a very calm water device?

Hi Mr.Ladyfish<br /><br />I could not find anything doing a search on power pole in iboats. Remember my computer has a Blond CPU :) <br /><br />But we have been using the folding grapnel anchor in the stern of the boat for several years with good results. Quick and easy to use and when not in use stores in a very small space.<br /><br /> http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?prod_id=3005&current_category=fold anchor&cart_id=258728054 <br /><br />If anyone has a link to let me see what a power pole looks like, I'd like to look at one.

Re: Power Pole?

Heres some info on Power Pole. It appears to be a very helpful piece of equipment, but at $1,000 to $1,500.... it is out of my budget. Maybe someone will "clone " one at a reasonable price. It supposedly uses Bennet Trim tab hydraulics. If I can buy Bennets trim tabs at $300 or so per boat..why would a PP cost $1,000??? I guess, if it says B O A T it really does mean, in this case... "bring out another thousand"<br /><br /> http://www.landbigfish.com/articles/default.cfm?ID=460 <br /><br />RichG

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll pass it along but I doubt he'll be interested at that price.
