Steering cable

Im working on amid seventies crestliner...<br />The last owner re-wound the cable (one piece) so the steering was backwards...<br />In my efforts to unwind and rewind @ the steering column I found some interesting problems to say the least.<br />I cant seem to get the one piece steering system to work for me..I got it wound back but it doesnt hold once i let go of the wheel the cable unwinds at the column again.<br />signed frustrated

Do you have the motor end of the cable attached someplace?

Do you have the cable sheath attached to the steering head? If not, it will wind right out.

I bet that is frustrating indeed<br /><br />Couple quick questions<br />This is cable steering with pulleys and springs?<br />What size is the outboard motor?<br /><br />The reason I ask is because it might be easier and safer to put a newer steering system in and second in our state on 50 hp and above Dealers can not sell a boat with type of steering.<br /><br />Will be instresting to see what the fix is to keep the cable from unwinding. Bet it will be something simple :rolleyes: <br /><br />Luck to ya<br />Link

Okay...Thanx you guys all your help has led me to success!!!! <br />One question I do have is this I may follow your advice and get a new steering system. Any suggestions?<br />signed better now.<br /><br />Break Out Another Thousand!!!
